The diverse members of Alpha Sigma Phi fraternity are
united behind our organization's virtues: Silence, Charity,
Purity, Honor, and Patriotism. Once an esoteric element
of our sacred ritual, our national office has recently
unveiled the virtues to the general public. We believe
that by instructing our new members in these virtues,
we will succeed in our open motto: "To Better the
Man."
Alpha Sigma Phi was founded at Yale University on December
6, 1845. Three young men: Louis
Manigault, Horace Spangler Weiser, and Stephen Ormsby
Rhea, all freshmen, met and laid down the basic principles
of a society that today counts its membership in the
thousands.
Since 1845, Alpha Sigma Phi has maintained
a proud tradition of
creating and perpetuating brotherhood
between good men coast to coast. Dedicated alumni have
long preserved and enriched the "Old
Gal's" tradition with a vision for the future
that exemplifies the experiences of
the past. Through the
years, many brothers have noted that Alpha Sigma Phi
made a significant contribution early in their lives.
With gratitude, these members have remained loyal and
are supportive of the Fraternity's future.
Alpha Sigma
Phi's existence has been
threatened many times over the
last 150 years, but the fraternity still managed to pull
through these hardships. Therefore, the official symbol
of the fraternity is the Phoenix, the mythological bird
that rises from its ashes.
Today, Alpha Sigma Phi is
recognized as a fraternity
of quality and stature. With
over 60 chapters, colonies, and interest groups, and
an active expansion effort, the Fraternity continues
to offer meaningful services and opportunities to over
2,000 undergraduates and 40,000 living alumni.

The Delta Tau chapter of Alpha Sigma Phi hosts two primary
fundraisers for our national
philanthropy, Canine Companions for Independence (CCI).
These events, BananaFest and Spring Fling, involve sorority
competitions and invitation-only social events with proceeds
donated to CCI.
Our community service committee also participates
in events for local and
national philanthropic organizations, such as Habitat
for Humanity, Up Till Dawn, and Needline. Every spring
break, a team of dedicated brothers volunteer to build
houses for habitat for humanity in locations across the
nation. In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, this team
made an additional trip to Alabama to help cleanup the
devastation.
Delta Tau actively competes in the All-Greek league
of Murray State University's intramural sports program.
And we actively win. Delta Tau currently holds Murray
State's coveted All-Greek Sports Award, The President's Cup, for finishing
first in golf, volleyball, basketball, and soccer, and
second in softball and flag football.
